Announcing a new book from Cheri Pierson Yecke, PhD, an educator, historian, and author whose latest work invites readers to discover the real woman behind one of America's most treasured literary figures. Her book, Discovering Laura: The Historical Laura Ingalls Wilder, is the first in a three-volume historical nonfiction series exploring the lives of Laura Ingalls Wilder and Almanzo J. Wilder through meticulous historical research.

The series begins with Discovering Laura: The Historical Laura Ingalls Wilder (Volumes I and II), which offers a fresh and authoritative examination of Laura's life, placing both the beloved author and her Little House books within the rich historical landscape of America's westward expansion. Drawing upon a decade of research, Dr. Yecke reveals the people, places, and events that shaped Wilder's experiences and inspired the stories generations of readers have cherished. The series concludes with Discovering Almanzo: The Historical Almanzo J. Wilder (Volume III), which explores the remarkable life of Laura's husband and literary partner.
With the tenacity of an historian, the curiosity of a naturalist, and the clarity of a scientist, Dr. Yecke brings new insight and historical depth to the Little House legacy while remaining an admiring yet clear-eyed biographer.
Dr. Yecke is the author of six books and serves on the board of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Legacy and Research Association. She has enjoyed a distinguished career in education, teaching at the K–12 and university levels and serving in cabinet-level leadership positions in three states—as Secretary of Education in Virginia, Commissioner of Education in Minnesota, and Chancellor of Education in Florida—as well as serving as a senior official in the U.S. Department of Education. From 2008 until her retirement in 2015, she was Associate Provost for Graduate Programs and Professor of History and Political Science at Harding University, where she taught undergraduate and graduate courses in law, history, and leadership.
